This pathway maps the vendor-neutral Cloud Fundamentals to Microsoft Azure and the AZ-900 (Azure Fundamentals) certification — then on toward AZ-104 (Administrator).

Start with the concepts

If you haven't already, work through service models, deployment models, resilience and cloud security. Azure is those concepts with Microsoft names.

Azure vocabulary

Identity — Microsoft Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) is Azure's identity backbone.
Compute — Virtual Machines (IaaS), App Service (PaaS), Azure Kubernetes Service (containers).
Networking — Virtual Networks (VNets), NSGs and load balancers (see cloud networking).
Regions & availability zones — for global reach and high availability.
Governance — management groups, subscriptions, Azure Policy and cost management.

Microsoft Entra ID (previously Azure Active Directory) is Microsoft's cloud identity and access service behind Microsoft 365 and Azure. It is NOT a cloud-hosted domain controller — it's a modern, internet-facing identity platform using OAuth 2.0/OpenID Connect/SAML rather than Kerberos/LDAP.
